Microsoft claim that their lead over Sony not only stretches to 7 million units in the US, but even the traditionally Sony faithful European territories have 1 million more Xbox 360s in their homes.
The figures come from recently announced NPD results for December, which also put total lifetime spending on Xbox 360 at $13.2 billion. That’s more than twice PlayStation 3’s figure, which weighs in at a comparatively modest $6.1 billion.
Xbox LIVE memberships have also increased to 17 million, generating even more revenue in membership fees.
Overall, gamers spent a staggering $5 billion (£3.37 million) during the month of December, accumulating the highest revenue for the industry in videogame history.
